Peur Aeternus means “eternal boy” and was typical in reference
gods that were forever in a childlike state such as Cupid. Pop Psychology author
Dr. Dan Kiley first coined the term Peter Pan Syndrome with the publication “Peter
Pan Syndrome: Men Who Have Never Grown Up.” Which was then followed by “The
Wendy Dilemma: When Woman Stop Mothering Their Men.” Both were a study in co-dependence and heterosexual relationship dynamics.
For the purpose of my miniature tirade however I am going to discuss Peter Pan syndrome and specifically how it relates to me. There are a number of types or levels of what I consider Peter Pan Syndrome. I’d say I have a case of the modern day, bastardized interpretation of Peter Pan Syndrome. I don't want to grow up. I'm a fully functioning adult. Own my car, hold a full-time job (even if I don't really like it), pay all of my bill before they're due, have more money in my savings account than I do in credit card debt and even regularly invest in my 401k and retirement portfolio. Yet I simply don't want to grow up (even if I am) and deal with being an adult (even if I do).
