Christmas Date Tradition

The tradition of a Christmas date started before I can even remember, which I the whole scheme of things is probably only about twelve years. The tradition consists of essentially a date night with my Mom. it started back when we were old enough to want to buy presents but still young enough not to be able to drive ourselves or order online. Pitfall of living in the country, poor public transportation so you have to rely on Mom and Dad for everything. Anyways, there being five of us kids sometimes it was hard to feel special. I know my parents always tried to make us all feel loved and cherished and I know they didn't actually have favorites, even if Nathan, Jared and I still insist Daniel and Laura where Mom's favorites. but the Christmas date was always a special one on one time with just me and my Mom. A time where we could go to the theater and see a cheesy chick-flick without censure. A once in a year time were I get to monopolize my Mothers time and be completely and utterly selfish and no one can comment or judge, and tonight is the night.

Granted things have changed quite a bit from when I was a little girl. for example I don't ave any Christmas presents to buy tonight since I've already gotten my presents for everyone else. Tonight will just be about us girls, my sister is joining the night, because as adults we don't have to compete and be quite so selfish, and because I know that even if Laura the favorite daughter, I'm the better daughter. I'm not being serious. As an adult I know what I didn't as a child. That you can love more than one person equally for very different reasons.  So here I am literally putting the finishing touches on this before I walk out the door to go to Bell-square with my sister to buy stuff for ourselves, then meet our Mother for dinner and aimless browsing at the University Village. Sounds like the makings of a totally wonderful evening to me.
