Did you know?

The only phrase I know that will make my sister roll her eyes and sigh with exasperation is: "Did you know?"  Really only when it comes from my lips. I have an odd fascination with the trivial and bizarre, the true and useless. Did you know that your skin weighs more than your brain? Although this fact may be wonderful for the lotion industry it doesn't really matter to anyone else, but for some reason my mind has chosen to retain it.  college was a veritable nirvana for my love of random facts, every lass had something  paleontology gave me great ones like: Did you know that evidence shows that dinosaurs were warm blooded and related to chickens more so than to reptiles? Classical studies I learned interesting and odd facts like, did you know that Minerva is the Roman equivalent of the Greek Athena, but that Apollo is the same in both Roman and Greek mythology? Or the one college English course I took teaching me relatively little, except did you know that "I am" is the shortest complete sentence in the English language?

Random facts are great. They make phenomenal one liners, opening liners and pick up lines. I may in fact have to introduce some bloke to the wonders of a coat closet  if I was at a wedding and he came up to me and said "did you know that sparkling wines can legally only be referred to as 'champagne' if they in fact produced in the Champagne region of France?" Seriously not only are random did you knows fun but their usually rather intelligent... most of the time. Seriously though, tell me you wouldn't start flossing twice a day if your dentist  said to me "did you know that a narwhal's horn is actually a tooth? Thank goodness you don't have an teeth like that to brush." I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love random did you know facts even though they drive my family nuts.
