Absolutely terrible human beings

As a society Americans are completely and totally enamored by absolutely terrible human beings. From fictional characters in a television show like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia to reality television stars on shows like Jersey Shore, people are obsessed and fascinated by the inordinately self centered element of these drains on society.  Both shows are filled with lazy, self centered, self entitled morons. They may have some redeeming qualities, however those don't sell ad spaces so those aren't seen.

The entire point of a show like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is that the characters are in fact genuinely terrible people. They have absolutely no compassion or consideration for society or each other. The characters are constantly trying to screw each other over. Its the reason people watch the show the reason its so funny. The Characters are genuinely terrible people, no one in their right mind would actually want to be friends with them. That's the appeal, Anyone can look at their own lives and say "at least I'm not a dill-hole like Mac or an idiot like Charlie." Not that Rob McElhenney is a dill-hole or Charlie Day is an idiot in real life, they just play them for the general public's amusement.

As a matter of full disclosure I just watched about three hours of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Its funny shit, I'm just as bad as the rest of the pitiful society I live in.
