Today however I said what the hell and went in. While browsing around I saw many interesting treasures. I saw a beautiful collection of antique purple glass, an antique metal workman's bench that would make a wonderful kitchen island, or a twelve foot antique warehouse ladder that would look wonderful in my dream personal library. My perfect find of the day however, was a beautiful cast iron bust of a woman. Like all truly great treasures for some inexplicable reason it spoke to me.
The sand cast bust is different, very Grecian. Having had long time love affair with ancient Greek and ancient Roman literature, mythology and art, she inexplicably appeals to the classicist in me. Someone at some point painted the the iron bust an off white cream that has since chipped off in places, and was poorly done in the first place with visible brush strokes and varying numbers of coats in different areas. Despite all that she is beautiful.
One of my old friends is into all that new age stuff, which if you think about it, it is really just all the old age stuff brought into a new light. Being raise pagan she believes in the power of the elements, reads tarot cards, and believes in the healing and harmful power of objects. Based on the way this statue appealed to me and the fact that I find it fascinating that she was created using a technique of sand molding casting.
Her white face and eyes are a little creepy and she reminds me just a little of a weeping angel statue, but despite that I find her indescribably beautiful. She's so young and innocent yet knowing and peaceful, the slight curve of her lips the slight point of her nose are all so very noble and pure. So this Sand molding cast iron bust of a young virginal Grecian woman is my perfect find of the day for a surprisingly reasonable price in a shop I may never have gone in.
