A New Year

Every year people all around the world make resolutions; promising to work out more, drink less, be nicer to their friends and families, get a promotion, loose weight, or work less. They are all great in principle, but so very few are ever actually carried out for all three hundred and sixty-five days.  This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It makes those select few who do accomplish their new years resolution so much more special.

A friend for 2012 resolved not to drink hard alcohol and wines for an entire year, granted this new years resolution stemmed from the mother of all hang overs (most definitely a case of improperly treated minor alcohol poisoning). On December 31st, 2011 he woke up at noon still drunk, sick and miserable. So on the first of January last year, when the misery had resided enough for coherent thought and he could stop praying to the porcelain gods, he resolved not to drink wines and hard alcohols for an entire year. At midnight last night he ended his three hundred and sixty-five days of self imposed semi-sobriety (he could and did still drink beer throughout the year). Granted he ended it by taking shots at midnight of all the hard alcohols he hadn't been consuming (e.g. rum, tequila, whiskey, vodka...). I'm sure now he's hating life, but maybe it will inspire his next resolution.

So here is a new year one ripe with possibilities and potential. One destined to be filled with broken resolutions, disappointments, fiscal cliffs and strife. Yet it is just as fated that it will be brimming with achievements only ever dreamed, adventures, rewards and wonder. Cheers! And here is to the best years yet.
