| Earth and the Asteroid, (Red line is geosynchronous satellites) |
The asteroid will pass close to the earth providing many scientists with new data, that may one day help someone solve string theory. however in the mean time it will be passing closest to the earth directly over the eastern Indian Ocean off Sumatra and will be approximately 17,200 miles above the earths surface.
To all the fear mongers out there IT WON"T CRASH. There is no scenario in which this asteroid collides with Earth, our trajectory and its trajectory just bring us both really close together nothing more. So enjoy the nearness of a 50 meter (diameter) space asteroid passing right next to us tomorrow at about 11:34 PST.
