Powell's Books

Powell’s City of Books is amazing.  That’s really the beginning and end to everything. It is the size of a city block with a little over 68,000 square feet packed with new and used books.  They stock 122 major subject areas and more than 3,500 subsections with more than 1,000,000 volumes on their shelves.  It is a book lovers nirvana. Powell’s is the largest independent bookstore in the United States and arguably the world and it’s a hope skip and 200 mile road trip from my backyard. Being the avid book reader and lover that I am, Powell’s is my new found Mecca.

one single aisle of many
On my last real day off I embarked on a pilgrimage to the literary holy land. I hope god doesn't spite me for the blasphemy I'm spouting. It is truly amazing. My young cousin and I embarked on our adventure primary to visit this bookstore, three hours of driving each ways and a visit to a few other Portland landmarks before we let ourselves get lost in this amazing place. We entered the simple front doors and five hours later, we exited with almost two hundred dollars worth of books between the two of us. Powell's is special and kind of amazing with approximately 3000 transactions a day and nearly 3,000 used books purchased by them on a daily basis, they are amazing and that's all there is to say on the matter.
